Practice Profile

Worke & Bussell Ltd is registered as an RIBA Chartered Practice, and was set up in 1990 by Philippa Worke and Ray Bussell.

Philippa worked for various large practices before setting up her first practice Pappa and Worke Architects in 1982. Ray is a qualified Architect and Civil Engineer and had considerable experience in the commercial sector prior to setting up his first practice, Ray Bussell Associates in 1990.

The practice is run from a self-contained home office in East Finchley in North London.

Working primarily in in the London area Worke & Bussell has completed a diverse range of projects including residential nursing homes, schools, community centres, doctor’s surgeries, housing developments, shops, restaurants, as well as numerous residential projects for private clients.

The Practice offers a personal service, with a partner responsible for designing and overseeing individual projects. Much of the work comes from recommendations and repeat business: the practice has been working with one of their current clients for almost a decade.


Design Philosophy

Our aim is to provide a meticulous design solution through a process that involves listening to our clients, understanding their needs and aspirations and producing design-led solutions. We prefer a minimalist and contemporary style but buildings need to suit their context and the limitations of clients budgets and the planning process. Through many years of designing buildings we have evolved a vigorous framework for enquiring through which we explore the potential of each brief.

In working closely with a range of consultants we are able to offer an exceptional body of knowledge and experience that embraces every aspect of a buildings design, construction and purpose.


How we work

Once the brief has been established we work closely with our clients to maximize their aspirations and make the design process as enjoyable and informative as possible.

The practice will manage all aspects of the project from the initial consultations through to the building and completion. The clients are involved at all stages of the process and keeping a keen eye on the budget further reduces the stresses which can occur during the building phase.
